Brief Solutions Oriented Therapy

Patricia Brooks, LCSW, PhD

What Is It?

Study of the mind/body connection reveals how our thoughts generate our feelings and our feelings generate a physical response. These two dynamics then determine our actions and behavior. Research has demonstrated that focusing on negative experiences or thoughts will automatically stimulate negative feelings and consequent negative physical responses to these feelings. For many people, focusing on solutions versus problems is a simple, clear, brief and effective approach towards resolving anxiety, depression and many other disturbances of the mind and body. This approach includes such strategies as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Hypnosis as well as traditional psychotherapy, referrals to complementary practitioners, and collaboration with Western physicians.
